NBC Cancels Freshman Drama ‘The Playboy Club’
After just three episodes, NBC has canceled its new drama ‘The Playboy Club.’
The sexy show, which was set in a 1960s-era Chicago and starred Eddie Cibrian, Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Naturi Naughton, was besieged even before its first airing. It earned a boycott from the Parents Television Council and public scorn from feminist icon Gloria Steinem, both of whom claimed the program objectified and degraded women.
The premiere’s ratings were underwhelming, and fell even further with the two later episodes that followed.
NBC’s Monday-night programming slot will now be filled by newscaster Brian Williams’ news magazine ‘Rock Center with Brian Williams,’ which will feature Harry Smith, Kate Snow and other correspondents and anchors at NBC News.
