NBC is set to produce 'Coat of Many Colors', the first in a series, of Dolly Parton inspired movies. The movie event is based on Dolly Parton's real life experience.

In January of this year NBC announced a developmental deal with Parton using her songs as the basis of movie events for the network. These will be family friendly, inspirational movies that should appeal to a broad audience.

The first event in development has been announced as 'Coat of Many Colors'; a song Parton has called her favorite ever written. The song, written in 1971, is the story of Parton's mom sewing together a coat for Dolly. The Parton family was poor so her mother made her a coat out of pieces of rags. While her mother sewed she told the Biblical story of Joseph and his Coat of Many Colors.

Parton was proud of her new coat but was made fun of when she wore it to school. She tries to explain the story to her classmates but they don't understand how this coat of rags could mean so much.

I think this story, still resonates today. Sometimes you may not have much but if you have love that's all you really need. It's not the material things that matter. This will be a fascinating series and it will be exciting to see what will be next in development.
