Vacation: a period of suspension of work, study, or other activity, usually used for rest, recreation, or travel; recess or holiday. That is the definition; mine was Puerto Rico! We didn't feel Mexico was a safe place right now so we chose Puerto Rico a beautiful part of the U.S. which means no passport needed. Here are a few of the things we did and saw.

First off, it's an island, which of course means beautiful beaches but it's also a rainforest. We rented a condo for the week in Luquillo, about 30 minutes east of San Juan. We were "locals" here, it wasn't a resort area but a place where Puerto Ricans live and play. We became one of them during our stay.

Our condo faced the El Yunque Rainforest; out our back door was the beach.

The rainforest was beautiful, lush, green, full of life and....RAIN! El Yunque actually means Mountain in the Clouds and it was definitely that. We climbed up the rainforest to a tower that literally put us in the clouds.

There were beautiful flowers, strange trees, water falls and the elusive frogs that you can hear but never see. They make a sound that is "Co qui--coqui--coqui" you hear them everywhere but I never once saw one except in pictures. We actually took 2 days to go through the forest. One day was on our own just sight seeing, driving through and hiking, then we did the zipline (those pics aren't developed yet).

I can't describe in words what we saw but I think you can see from the pics that it was amazingly beautiful!

This was just a couple of days of my week long trip. As I mentioned I still have some pictures yet to be developed. They were taken with a waterproof camera. It rained almost everyday, you remember what rain is right? So when we zip lined we used those waterproof cameras, then we did a kayak and snorkeling trip too. So those pics will be coming soon.

The people were very nice, the beaches were great and the snorkeling incredible. I want to share as much with you as possible, because this is a great place to visit. I had never really thought about Puerto Rico as a vacation destination but I'm glad we went and we will be heading back next summer with more family in tow. Check back because I have more to share. Some of which might surprise you!
