The woman was diagnosed with a life-threatening form of cancer and refused chemotherapy so that her child could be born, even though it meant she would die.

Stacie Crimm, 41, was diagnosed with neck cancer just a short time after finally becoming pregnant with her first child. According to Crimm’s brother, Ray Phillips, the choice was simple for her because her miracle baby would live. “This baby was everything she had in this world,” Phillips said.

After an invasive tumor began to wrap around her brain stem and caused her heart to stop, Crimm’s doctors delivered two pound, one ounce Dottie Mae by emergency c-section. When it became clear Crimm was not going to make it, nurses allowed the dying mother to hold her little girl just once, while she still could.

Crimm’s brother was there and said, “It was the perfect moment.”
