Miss Abilene and Miss Teen Abilene Pageants Return With Recruitment Beginning July 7th

Abilene has not had a Miss Abilene pageant in a very long time but that is about to change. There will be two upcoming pageants. One is the Miss Abilene pageant the other is Miss Abilene Teen. Recruitment for these pageants will begin July 7th.

These are preliminary pageants that lead to Miss Texas and ultimately to Miss America. Since this year's Miss Texas will be crowned on July 6th local recruitment for the next competition will begin July 7th with the local pageants coming sometime next February.

Contestants will have to do some fund raising in order to participate and event organizers are hoping for community support for these girls. These aren't just 'beauty' contests, although that is a benefit, they are scholarship pageants to help girls attend college.

There are a few rules in order to participate in each of the competitions. A few of those include being a U.S. citizen and meeting residency requirements, meet character requirements set forth by the Miss America Organization, be in reasonably good health to meet the job/title requirements, meet time commitment and job responsibilities. There are a few other more details but those are some of the most prominent.

The Miss Abilene pageant which would lead to Miss Texas requires that you be between the ages of 17 & 24. For the Miss Teen Abilene, leading to Miss Teen Texas, you must be between ages 13 & 17. Competition categories will include Fitness (swimsuit for Miss Abilene & aerobic wear for Teens), on stage Q&A, evening wear and talent.

Prizes for the competitions include at least $250 cash scholarship for Miss Abilene and $100 to Miss Abilene Outstanding Teen. Schools are also allowed to give in-kind scholarships and this will all be determined as competition nears.
