Little Big Town had some tough competition for Vocal Group of the Year at the 50th anniversary CMA Awards, but the seasoned quartet came out on top once again.

Up against country all-stars Lady Antebellum, Rascal Flatts, Zac Brown Band and newcomers Old Dominion, the group snagged the coveted award, presented to them by Cam, Cole Swindell and actor Josh Dallas of the show Once Upon a Time. The ladies of the group spoke up first, with Karen Fairchild celebrating another artist’s award before even mentioning their own.

“Brothers Osborne just won! Ahh!” she exclaimed, before Kimberly Schlapman jumped in.

“We sat at home and watched so many of you on our T.V.s as kids,” Schlapman said, noting all the icons in the audience for the show’s 50-year celebration. “We idolized you and we so wanted to be here, and thank you Jesus!"

Fairchild also remembered fondly Barbara Mandrell’s Entertainer of the Year win, noting how amazing it was that a woman won the co-ed genre. Unfortunately the band was out of time before the men could get much of a word in, but the smiles on their faces said they were just as thrilled.

The band recently released a new song titled “Better Man,” written by Taylor Swift, which they also performed at the show with Swift as a surprise guest. The song will appear on their new record, due out in 2017, coinciding with a six-show residency at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium next year.
