Who doesn’t love a great cover? We thought we’d seen it all when Willie Nelson covered Coldplay’s ‘The Scientist,’ but then indie pop group fun. released their own acoustic version of Lady Antebellum‘s ‘We Owned the Night’ on SiriusXM (see below), and we admit we’re a little smitten.

The band’s lead singer Nate Ruess is joined on the song by guitarist Jack Antonoff simply wielding his acoustic and third band member Andrew Dost on keys and lending some gentle harmonies to the background vocals. Their version is much more relaxed, but still feels like it has just the right amount of angst you would expect an indie rock outfit to infuse into a song.

If you’re not familiar with fun., they’re the hitmakers behind the 2011 song ‘We Are Young’ featuring Janelle Monae, which debuted at No.1 on Billboards’ Hot 100 and Digital Songs charts, marking the first time a multi-member rock band has had a song debut in the Hot 100 since Nickelback‘s December 2001 hit ‘How You Remind Me.’

As for as the real ‘We Owned the Night’ singers, Lady Antebellum recently celebrated their 15th consecutive sold-out show on their Own the Night Tour. They’re also gearing up to perform at the 47th Annual ACM Awards April 1 with other artists like Blake Shelton, Chris Young, Rascal Flatts and more. Be sure to check out this incredible cover and just see if you don’t love it as much as we do!
