A 2-year-old Dallas, Texas girl has died after being left in a hot car for nearly an hour Friday (7/17) evening.

Dallas police say that just before 7:00 PM detectives responded to the Medical City Hospital regarding a deceased child. The child's parents told police that when they came home from spending the day at Fair Park with their children they went inside to take a nap.

When they woke up from their nap the little girl's father went outside to work on his vehicle when he discovered 2-year-old Nariyah Raufu still strapped into her car seat in the back seat of the vehicle. The father says he immediately removed the child from the car and took her inside and called 911 while the mother performed CPR for about 30 minutes.

Nariyah was pronounced dead at 7:19 PM.

The parents said they thought all of their children had exited the car when they went inside.

Child Protective Services are involved and investigating the incident. No charges have been filed at this time.

This is the first heat-related child death in Texas this year and the tenth nationwide.
