The Kentucky Headhunters haven't release new music in awhile but that's about to change with the release of a new album in June.

The new album will feature late, pianist Johnnie Johnson. Johnson was a legendary blues pianist and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, who worked along side the likes of Chuck Berry. Johnson first met the Headhunters in 1992 and collaborated with them on their 1993 release of 'That'll Work'. They eventually went on the road together and remained longtime friends and colleagues.

This particular album of work was recorded in 2003 and was created on spontaneously. The group describes it as 'magical and a gift from God'. The work was never released and Johnson passed away in 2005 but the work was not forgotten.

Finally, 13 years later we get to hear this 'magical' music as it will be released on Alligator Records on June 2nd, 2015. The album is called 'Meet Me in Bluesland' and will include 11 new songs. If you want to hear some of this great music before the album release, you can hear 3 of the songs on SoundCloud. Want to pre-order your copy, click here.

I personally have missed the Headhunters and was lucky enough to see them live when I was in college. My favorite, of course, was Dumas Walker. In honor of that song here is the video from 1989.
