Garth Brooks, Vince Gill and Darius Rucker are among the stars who performed at the recent Kennedy Center Honors, which are set to air on Tuesday night (Dec. 27).

The Eagles were honored at the 39th annual Kennedy Center Honors, which took place in Washington, D.C, on Dec. 4. The annual celebration spotlights artists who have made an outstanding contribution to their field.

"The Kennedy Center Honors celebrates the spectacular talents of artists whose brilliance has left a lasting impact on our society," Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein says via the Kennedy Center's website.

Gill joined the Kings of Leon to pay tribute to the country-rock pioneers by performing "Life in the Fast Lane."  Iconic songs including "Desperado," "Lyin' Eyes" and "Take It to the Limit" helped bridge the gap between country and rock music, paving the way for many of the biggest acts in contemporary country music in the process.

The Eagles were supposed to be honored at last year's ceremony, but they postponed until this year because of Glenn Frey's health. Frey passed away in January at the age of 67.

James Taylor was also honored at this year's ceremony, and Brooks, Rucker and Sheryl Crow were on hand to pay musical homage to the legendary singer-songwriter. Rucker is a native of South Carolina, and he performed "Carolina in My Mind," while Brooks -- who counts Taylor as one of his biggest influences -- performed "Shower the People."

Actor Al Pacino and blue and gospel singer Mavis Staples were also among the honorees, along with Argentine pianist Martha Argerich. President Bill Clinton, Bonnie Raitt, Kevin Spacey and Bob Seger were among the other luminaries in attendance.

The 39th annual Kennedy Center Honors are set to air on Dec. 27th at 9PM ET on CBS, hosted by Stephen Colbert.
