This past season in Australia Keith Urban was a judge on their version of "The Voice". He's already admitted to being approached by producers of American Idol here in the
States. So does his resigning from next season's judging position in Australia mean good things for the States American Idol?

“I’ve been so fortunate to have been a part of ‘The Voice,’” Urban says in a statement (quote via mjsbigblog). “And as much as I’d love to do it again, it’s clear that the recording and promoting of a new album, a tour and other commitments, will keep me from being a part of the second season.”

Could this be the closing of one door and the opening of another? The producers of Idol have indeed approached Urban to be a judge for season 12 of the show but a decision has yet to be reached or announced.

If Urban took the job he would join Mariah Carey as a judge and would receive a $4 million paycheck (significantly less than Carey's reported $18 million). As of right now the only confirmed judge for season 12 is Carey, while Randy Jackson is expected to return it has been reported that Nicki Minaj would take on his spot if he didn't return.

I guess we will have to wait until January 13th and see who actually is sitting in the judges chairs to be for sure.

You can expect to hear new music from Urban when his album drops sometime next year.
