KEAN 105’s Top Stories of 2013
As I look back over 2013 I begin to remember the stories that captured our attention. Tribute remakes, country rap songs and Duck Dynasty peaked our curiosity and made the headlines. So here is a look at KEAN 105’s top stories for the past year .
The “Alabama and Friends” album was recently released featuring some of country music’s hottest artists reprising some Alabama classics. One song that definitely stuck out and made me take notice, was the Florida Georgia Line (FGL) remake of the Alabama classic “I’m in a Hurry and Don’t Know Why”. These guys took the song and made it their own. While I love the Alabama version, it took me a couple of listens to really start liking this one.
I recently did as blog on Blake Shelton’s new song and that it had some “Country Rap” infused in it. Well, Blake Shelton is not the only artist to bring “Rap” to the Country Music forefront. In fact I seem to recall that the first time I heard a country artist do a “Country Rap” song was in the ’80′s when the Bellamy Brothers released the song called “Country Rap.” While the song played well on the radio, it was apparent that not many in the industry took it seriously. In the ’90′s Neal McCoy gave it a go, with his song called “Hillbilly Rap.” Here's a list of a few more.
Please do not let this show get cancelled!! It seems that my favorite TV family has hit another bump in the road. First cast of Duck Dynasty was in salary negotiations with the powers that be at A&E. Now, family matriarch Phil Robertson has been placed on indefinite hiatus for recent statements he made about homosexuals in an interview.
Christmas traditions take on many forms. Decorations, gifts, food, songs, and more are what let us know that we are immersed in the season to be jolly. But one of my favorite Christmas traditions is the return of claymation movies to television. It seems, growing up, that these movies were on T.V. every night of the holiday season, and I watched every one of them each year. In honor of one of my favorite holiday traditions, I bring you my top 5 Classic Claymation Christmas Specials.
Get into the Christmas spirit with help from Gretchen Wilson. The “Redneck Woman” just released a new Christmas album titled “Christmas in My Heart” and it includes a couple of timeless classics like “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” and “Nuttin’ For Christmas.” Wilson also included some new, sure to be holiday favorites like “Christmas in My Heart” the title cut from her Christmas project.
Josh Thompson is back after a year and a half of being out of a record deal. While Josh was out firming up his new record deal with his new record company Show Dog Universal, he got busy writing and getting more songs together for the day when he could release his new music. Well, that day is now and Thompson is back with his new song titled “Cold Beer With Your Name On It”.
Colt Ford, who has has been the reigning king of ‘Country RAP’ just released his latest contribution to the music industry and it features his long time friend Jason Aldean. In as much of a fan that I am of Colt’s music style, this new “Drivin’ Around Song” is so far removed from any previous song the Country RAP Master has ever done before.
I never know what to expect from Blake Shelton, so when his new single hit my desk I closed my door, turned up my speakers and hit play. What I was not expecting was to here the “ACM’s Song of the Year” winner doing country-rap. It’s not like real R&B rap, but more so the way a boy from the sticks in Texas might do rap. Get ready to like it, because it will grow on you. Check it out and tell me what you think.
I came across a new way to clear out our “yard sale” pile in the garage, and do a little shopping for herself, without leaving the house. Abilenee Swap Meet is the name, but I call it an addiction. It’s a fairly simple Facebook group that allows members to post items for sale, or post messages about stuff they are looking to buy. It’s similar to Abilene CraigsList or Abilene ebay, but buyers and sellers are more easily identified through their Facebook profiles.
