Kacey Musgraves and husband Ruston Kelly put the words of Johnny Cash to their own love story in the video for their rendition of Cash's poem, "To June This Morning."

The singer-songwriter couple loaned their talents to Johnny Cash: Forever Words, a tribute album that puts music to the words of Cash's unreleased poems, lyrics and other works. Musgraves and Kelly teamed up for this heartfelt poem Cash wrote for his wife on a whim one morning, with the singers turning it into a moving ballad.

Their somber interpretation honors the memory of Johnny and June in the most poignant of ways, beautifully bringing Cash's words to life with just an acoustic guitar and soft banjo. The video opens with Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson's reading of Cash's poem "Forever" before setting the stage for Kelly and Musgraves to express their love for one another through the song. They married in October.

It's a peaceful video — Musgraves and her husband surround themselves in nature, soaking in each other's company amidst the trees and stopping to feed some deer. They're calm as they explore the open landscape and Kelly serenades his wife, guitar in hand.

Cash wrote "To June This Morning" on Feb. 4, 1970, when June was eight months pregnant with son John Carter Cash, who later put the tribute album together. The song has personal resonance for Kelly, too — he reveals that he stumbled upon the poem when he was 16 years old and decided to put music to it.

"I thought it was so sweet and honest and true," Kelly shares in a video of he and Musgraves recording the song.

"It's just a sweet peek into what probably was at times a really chaotic lifestyle and it was a moment in time that just was really thankful," Musgraves adds.

Brad Paisley, Alison Krauss, Elvis Costello and the late Chris Cornell are some of the other artists that appear on Johnny Cash: Forever Words, available now.
