Kacey Musgraves has a magic touch. The country star teamed up with R&B singer-songwriter Miguel for a remake of his song "Waves" that will appeal to fans of multiple genres of music.

Musgraves' version of "Waves" stays true to the original yet is a tune all its own; it's not a cover, more of a reimagining. Under the singer-songwriter's guidance, "Waves" turns from a funky track with electronic influences into a beachy (no pun intended) slow jam.

The vocals are full, with both Musgraves and Miguel trading off lyrics and harmonizing with each other, but the melody itself is simple, even slightly sparse. Musgraves doesn't go all out and turn "Waves" into a completely country track; rather, understated SoCal country-style influences are present, including a bit of Spanish-sounding guitar. "Waves" comes from Miguel's 2015 release, Wildheart; he wrote the tune and helped produce it. Musgraves' version is one of five remixes of the track on Miguel's new Rogue Waves EP, which is available for purchase via Amazon and iTunes.

Musgraves is known to mix in some covers during her live shows. She's recently been performing Gnarls Barkley's 2006 smash hit "Crazy," turning the tune into a foot-stomping country track.

The 2016 leg of Musgraves' Country & Western Rhinestone Revue is currently scheduled to wrap up in early March; the artist will also be performing at SXSW 2016 that month. More information about her upcoming tour dates is available on her official website.
