John Prine has been nominated for entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Rock Hall revealed the complete list of 2019 nominees -- 15 acts in all -- on Tuesday morning (Oct. 9).

Prine is on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ballot for the first time. In addition to Prine, 2019's Rock Hall nominees include Def Leppard, Devo, Janet Jackson, Kraftwerk, LL Cool J, MC5, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Roxy Music, Stevie Nicks, the Cure, Todd Rundgren, Rufus & Chaka Kahn and the Zombies. The year's other first-time nominees are Def Leppard, Devo, Roxy Music, Nicks and Rundgren.

To be eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, an artist or band must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years prior. More than 1,000 music industry members based around the world will vote to determine this year's inductees, based on influence, the act's career longevity and their musical innovation; additionally, fans can cast votes (one ballot per day) on RockHall.com or in person at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, until Dec. 9.

An Illinois native, Prine began singing and songwriting as a hobby, while working as a mailman in Chicago in the late 1960s. Kris Kristofferson discovered him, after which Prine signed with Atlantic Records and released his debut album in 1971. In the mid-'80s, he co-founded Oh Boy Records.

Some of Prine's most famous songs include "Angel From Montgomery," David Allan Coe's "You Never Even Called Me By My Name" and "In Spite of Ourselves," a collaboration with Iris DeMent. His most recent album, The Tree of Forgiveness, dropped in April and debuted at No. 5 on the all-genre Billboard 200 -- Prine's highest-ever spot on that chart.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2019 will be revealed in December. The 2019 induction ceremony will take place at Brooklyn, N.Y.'s Barclays Center on March 29. Ticketing details will be revealed in January; the event will be simulcast on SiriusXM stations and broadcast on HBO.
