Of all the great bands that call the Texas Music scene home (and there are a lot, my friend), JB and the Moonshine Band are one of the best up-and-comers in it. And 2012 has been a banner year for JBMB. JB Patterson and the band spent three months as the only country band on the road opening with southern rapper Colt Ford as a part of his “Declaration of Independence Tour.”

In June, the video for their breakout smash, “Perfect Girl,” surpassed 1 million views on YouTube — no small feat for a young band. And last week the video for their latest single “No Better Than This” debuted on CMT.com to tremendous response.

I had the chance to talk with lead singer Patterson on my show Radio Texas, LIVE!, and he graciously offered insight into one of this summer’s most appropriate singles, “No Better Than This,” and it’s accompanying new video.

“We’re just happy people are liking it, and the people are watching it, and commenting on it,” Patterson said. “I don’t know really what else to say. It’s just really, really cool I appreciate everybody.”

Fans of the CMT reality show “Sweet Home Alabama” will recognize the couple in the video. They are Paige Duke and Jeremiah James Korfe. I was unfamiliar with them, but I was obviously in the minority. I asked JB why they cast them. JB was comically honest in his answer:

Because people like [them] and it would make [people] like me more if [they] were in my video, and now everybody that likes them will watch the video.”

JB shed light on a few more things during our conversation.

  • They worked very hard on the “No Better Than This” video and are proud of it.
  • He’s actually friends with Paige Duke.
  • “Sweet Home Alabama” is CMT’s version of “The Bachelorette” — this was news to me.
  • The video was shot at Percy Priest Lake in Tennessee.
  • JB is pretty sure Kevin Fowler “shed a few tears” over losing to them in my new music challenge recently.

JB and the Moonshine Band will be playing at historic Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth on Friday, Aug. 17. The guys are offering up a special ticket package that includes transportation from Tyler for those of you who desire a designated driver, so click here for more details.
