Jason Isbell won Best American Roots Song at the 2018 Grammy Awards for penning "If We Were Vampires."

"I'm not running for the internet," Isbell quipped as he walked briskly up to the stage to claim his trophy. "I feel like this particular part of the ceremony is joined by a lot of people who are trying to keep a certain thing alive," he continued.

Isbell also thanked his wife, Amanda Shires, who played a key role in the song's creation. Onstage, Isbell noted that "If We Were Vampires" came about because he was watching a reality television show the day before heading into the studio, and she said he should be writing a song instead.

Other nominees for Best American Roots Song at the 2018 Grammy Awards included Raul Malo and Alan Miller for the Mavericks' "I Wish You Well"; Rodney Crowell for his song "It Ain't Over Yet," which features Rosanne Cash and John Paul White; Gillian Welch and David Rawlings for the latter's "Cumberland Gap;" and Gregg Allman and Scott Sharrard for the former's "My Only True Friend."
