James Cameron’s ‘Fantastic Voyage’ Hires ‘Man of Steel’ Screenwriter David Goyer

The James Cameron-produced remake of ‘Fantastic Voyage’ has had trouble getting off the ground, but perhaps it will move forward now that ‘Dark Knight‘ and ‘Man of Steel‘ mastermind David Goyer has joined the project.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Goyer has signed on as Executive Producer and will help write the project. Considering that he’s got two television shows (‘Constantine‘ and ‘Da Vinci’s Demons‘) and is working on the films ‘Sandman,’ ‘Batman Vs. Superman‘ and its announced sequel ‘Justice League,’ you would think his plate is a little too full for another project. But it turns out that Goyer will simply be writing an outline. Likely this is what happened with both ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’

The project has gone through a number of hot screenwriters, including the Wibberlies and Laeta Kalogridis, but no one has been able to crack it. Cameron’s ‘Fantastic Voyage’ is a remake of the 1966 film, which followed a group of scientists (one was played by Raquel Welch because it was the sixties) who are shrunk down and injected into a person’s bloodstream in an effort to save their life, a premise that was tweaked by Joe Dante in his 1987 film ‘Innerspace.’ It seems likely the remake will be moving forward if Goyer is behind it, but there’s still no director attached, and Cameron will be booked up for years working on three sequels to ‘Avatar.’
