When we watched Jake Owen propose to now fiancee Lacey Buchanan spontaneously at a show in Vero Beach, Fla., the one little missing detail was the ring. Since Owen made a bit of a spur-of-the-moment decision to seal the deal with Buchanan in front of his hometown audience on April 7, he hadn’t quite had the time to go out and pick out the perfect rock. Now that he and his bride to be have had a few days to let the excitement settle and make some decisions, Owen is opening up and dishing on the details of the ring.

Not only did he pick the perfect stone and mind his four C’s, but Owen actually designed the ring with the help of Atlanta’s Lizzy Raye Jewelers. Going for a more classic look, the ‘Alone With You’ singer chose an oval-cut, 2.5-carat diamond and placed it in a dainty platinum setting with what he described to People as a “little bitty halo around it” made of small diamonds that match the diamonds on the band.

“I want that ring to be timeless,” he said. “When my mom saw it, she said, ‘That looks like something Princess Diana would wear.’ I was so excited to give it to her.” When he did present the lovely Buchanan with the ring, Owen made the moment special, explaining the significance of his choice.

“I told her, ‘The sparkle is never going to go away in that ring, and I don’t want our sparkle to ever go away either,’” he recalled. “‘On your darkest days, I want you to look at it and see that there’s a glimmer of light in it. I want it to always remind you of the possibilities of our relationship.’”

Speaking about his ring-selecting experience, Owen said, “I’m pretty spontaneous about a lot of things but that,” (which will come as no surprise to any fan who has seen the video of his proposal). “Look, she’s the most unique, amazing person I’ve ever met and I needed something on her finger just as unique as she is.”

Well done, Jake, well done!
