Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the most respected directors working today, which is why he can get some of the best actors in the business to join his projects. His next film 'Inherent Vice' is starting to build its cast, and besides Joaquin Phoenix and Benicio Del Toro, it looks like Owen Wilson may also join the film.

The Wrap broke that Wilson is currently in negotiations to join the project in a role that is currently being kept under wraps. Phoenix stars in this Thomas Pynchon adaptation as pot-smoking private detective Doc Sportello, who is investigating the kidnapping of an ex-girlfriend, with Del Toro up to play his advice-giving lawyer friend.

Anderson has come to be known for his deeply serious films of late ('There Will be Blood,' 'The Master'), he's also show that he can be funny, as 'Boogie Nights' and his 'SNL' short 'FANatic' showcase. And though there's it's unknown if this is more comedic, the fact that Sportello is a stoned detective, and Wilson's possible casting makes this sound like it might have a comic edge. But you never know with Anderson, who cast Adam Sandler in 'Punch Drunk Love' and played it mostly straight.

'Inherent Vice' is set to commence shooting shortly, so expect to hear more about the casting in the next couple weeks.
