Apart from a number of casting announcements over the last few months and an initial teaser, we haven’t heard much from History’s upcoming original series ‘Vikings,’ set to premiere on March 3. The series takes a fictional, yet historical look at the Viking age, recruiting a number of recognizable stars to swing swords and shields. And even though the series won't officially debut until March, how would you like to see the bad-ass opening sequence? Get a sneak peek of 'Vikings' inside!

It'll be a while yet before 'Vikings' officially sets sail on the History Channel March 3, but Deadline managed to pillage and early bit of goodness from the MGM TV produced-drama: its watery, stylistic opening credits!

‘Vikings’ follows actual historical figure Ragnar Lothbrok, considered to be the greatest hero of his age. The series tells the sagas of Ragnar’s band of Viking brothers and his family, as he rises to become King of the Viking tribes. As well as being a fearless warrior, Ragnar embodies the Norse traditions of devotion to the gods. According to the show's initial descriptions, “legend has it that he was a direct descendent of Odin, the god of war and warriors.”

Having previously cast veteran actor Gabriel Byrne for the series, ‘Vikings’ features Travis Fimmel in the central role of Ragnar Lothbrok, Viking hero of the tale, while joining him are Jessalyn Gilsig (‘Glee‘) as Siggy, the wife of Earl Haraldson (Byrne), Gustaf Skarsgard as Ragnar’s friend Floki, Clive Standen as his devious cousin Rollo, and Katheryn Winnick as first wife, and warrior Lagertha.

the 9-episode series comes from MGM TV,‘The Tudors’ and ‘Camelot’ creators Michael Hirst and Morgan O’Sullivan, and will officially premiere on Sunday, March 3. Check out the opening credits below, and tell us in the comments if you'll tune in for 'Vikings!'
