Wednesday, February 2, is Groundhog Day.  The legend goes that if the groundhog sees his shadow then 6 more weeks of winter follows.  So what are groundhog's exactly and how did we get a Groundhog Day?These are questions that I was curious about.  I know the legend but didn't really know any more than if he sees his shadow we get more winter.  So I did some research and came up with some fun facts about these little critters.  They look cute...I like the ones in the Geico commercial.  You know,  the ones chucking wood.  Anyway,  here's what I found, now you can impress your friends with your vast knowledge on Wednesday!!

The “Groundhog Day” legend comes from German tradition when, on Candlemas Day, people would tell a tale of hedgehogs or badgers serving as a test for the remaining duration of winter.  The first, recorded U.S. reference was made Feb. 4, 1841 in Morgantown Pennsylvania
