You read the headline correctly. It appears that government scientists are literally squirting the flu up volunteers' noses to better understand how the virus works. In fact, they are willing to pay you $3,000 for your time. You can't make this stuff up.

According to Today, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) have different studies being conducted to help the fight in influenza. The scientists just simply want to better understand influenza, and come up with better vaccines to fight off the sometimes deadly virus.

Only healthy adults are needed. Basically, the doctors will give each volunteer a dose of the flu, which is intended on giving off only moderate symptoms. You'll spend 9 glorious days in quarantine so you don't spread the virus. Then you get a cool $3,000 for your time.

As insane as it sounds, I'd probably do it. I mean you get 3 grand just for being super sick. Sure it would be a pain, but you would get free health care and they would make sure that you felt good before letting you out of the hospital. Plus, did I mention the 3 grand?

If you want more info on this, you can check out clinicaltrials.gov.

Would you get the flu for $3,000?
