About a month ago some friends of mine adopted 2 little boys from the Ukraine, brought them to the U.S. and gave them a forever home. I found, watching their journey, that it's not just the kids that benefit from adoption but the new parents do as well. No matter what the reasons behind the adoption choice are everyone seems to win.I didn't know there were so many types of adoption whether it be open, semi-open, closed, private or in my friends instance, international. It's a long and sometimes bumpy road but the fact is there are children with no parents and parents with no children that need to be connected.

There are many different laws and a lot of work that goes into adoption and I'm sure it can be a daunting task at times to try to continue with the process. However, there is a conference coming up March 2nd here in Abilene to help answer many of those questions you might have about the adoption process.

I know that my friends had quite a few set backs along the way but they didn't let that stop them; they wanted children so badly. They relied on family and friends to help get them through at times and in the end, two very happy little boys, full of life and wonder have now filled their lives.

I laugh at my friends' Facebook posts about the boys sometimes because the simplest things just fill their hearts with joy. Whether it's, teaching them their old college fight song, getting the first birthday party together, decorating their room, having to buying 2 gallons of juice in one week, or the boys simply calling them 'mom' and 'dad', you can tell their hearts are so full they almost burst.

If you are looking for this kind of love then this Love Bound adoption conference is probably for you. They will have breakout sessions that will answer many questions you might have. They will be discussing the laws, types of adoption, talking to children about adoption, dealing with learning and behavior problems and learning more about foster care and adoption in general.

The conference will be March 2nd from 8:45-3:30 at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church Conference Center (701 S. Pioneer Drive). The conference is free but you need to register online or call (325)692-6776.
