George W. Bush Has Lowest Favorable Rating of Any Living President

Lately we’ve seen Bill Clinton stumping for President Obama as he ramps up his reelection campaign — but you likely won’t see George W. Bush doing the same for GOP candidate Mitt Romney.

Why not? Probably because a new survey finds Bush has the lowest favorable rating of any living former president.

According to a CNN/ORC International poll of over 1,000 people, only 43 percent of participants had a favorable opinion of Bush. Compare that to Clinton’s 66 percent favorable rating, and you see why he’s been tapped to help out the Obama campaign while Romney’s staff hasn’t called upon Bush the same way.

What’s more, when survey respondents were asked if they’re better or worse off now than they were “when Bush was president,” 47 percent said they’re better off these days, while just 41 percent said things today are worse.

That’s a statistic that CNN Polling Director Keating Holland thinks will play a big part in the upcoming election.

“Don’t be surprised if the Obama campaign mentions the name of George W. Bush at every opportunity, and don’t be surprised if that strategy works,” Holland said, adding that the “mention of Bush’s name appears to prompt at least a few people to take a more positive view of their current financial situation.”
