Whether or not you ever caught the critically under-appreciated FX gem ‘Rescue Me,’ or you delight in Denis Leary’s acerbic wit in this year’s ‘The Amazing Spider-Man,’ the comedian certainly has a distinctive voice.  Literally, and figuratively.  That’s why FX’s latest announcement has us wondering, will we hear either in the new series ‘Bronx Warrants?’

Outside of its normal May pickups, FX has announced that it will bring to pilot a new half-hour police comedy entitled ‘Bronx Warrants,’ which follows a group of errant warrant detectives in the Bronx assigned to arrest individuals with outstanding warrants. With bonuses paid out for each “body” they bring in, the detectives are out to get rich rather than dole out justice.

The series will be executive produced by ‘Rescue Me’ vets Denis Leary and Jim Serpico, created by Dean Lorey (Arrested Development, My Wife and Kids), also serving as executive producer. ‘Warrants’ is based on the real life exploits of David Joglar and Richard Wetzel who are co-producers.

While FX sang the praises of their previous seven-year relationship working with Leary and Serpico on ‘Rescue Me,’ ‘Warrants’ creator Dean Lorey says, “I’m thrilled to be working with Denis Leary, Jim Serpico and the great team at FX.  We loved this show from the second real life Bronx Warrants cops David Joglar and Richard Wetzel shared their insane exploits with us and we can’t wait to get shooting.”

Not one to be counted out, Leary had his own bit of wit to share:

I speak for everyone at Apostle when I say it’s great to be welcomed back into the FX family where we hope to make a laugh-out-loud half hour and – even more importantly – use the network’s juice to sneak into the Emmy gifting suites and come away with many bags of shiny swag.

No word on exactly when ‘Bronx Warrants’ will shoot or premiere, but what say you?  Do you like the idea of Denis Leary coming back to FX, or do you wish he were actually on the show?  Who would you like to see in the pilot?  Give us your reactions and casting picks in the comments below!
