CW’s ‘Flash’ TV Series Adds ‘Vampire Diaries’ Star and More — Are Other DC Villains Ahead?

We still don’t know if ‘Arrow”s ‘The Flash‘ spinoff will be zooming onto The CW as its own series this fall, but its pilot supporting cast is at least picking up speed. ‘The Vampire Diaries‘ star Rick Cosnett has joined the cast in a regular role speculated to be that of a major ‘Flash’ villain, along with Danielle Panabaker as someone with ties to the scarlet speedster’s mysterious origins, and a villain in her own right!

Via Deadline, Cosnett will appear in ‘The Flash’ as recent Central City Police transfer Detective Eddie Thawne, whose past is shrouded in mystery and who supposedly harbors a dark secret. As previously speculated when the role was first announced, Eddie most likely corresponds to ‘Flash’ comic villain and time-traveler Eobard Thawne, better known as “Professor Zoom,” or “Reverse Flash.”

Panabaker meanwhile will appear as Caitlin Snow, a highly intelligent bioengineering expert who lost her fiancé during an explosion at S.T.A.R. Labs, very likely the same explosion that contributed to Barry gaining his powers at the climax of ‘Arrow”s most recent midseason finale, “Three Ghosts.” Sweet though Panabaker may seem, DC comics fans will note that Caitlin Snow represents one incarnation of chilly DC villain Killer Frost!

Also joining Grant Gustin in The CW’s ‘The Flash’ will be ‘Law & Order’ and ‘Rent’ star Jesse L. Martin as Detective West, an older mentor and father figure to Barry, as well as father to the still-uncast Iris West. Prior reports also suggested the potential casting of DC character Cisco Ramon, better known as the somewhat-controversial Latino hero Vibe, re-imagined in the pilot as a talented mechanical engineer who assists Barry. Little else is known of The CW’s ‘Flash’ spinoff, though it was decided the character would be given his own pilot rather than return for the 20th installment of ‘Arrow”s second season as originally intended.

Well, what do you think? We’ll bring you the latest on The CW’s ‘Flash’ pilot, but does its DC-familiar supporting cast give Barry Allen a shot at his own series? Get a taste of ‘The Flash’ in his ‘Arrow’ origins below, and give us your thoughts in the comments!
