There was a lot of initial skepticism about the idea of a Finding Nemo sequel. What are you gonna do? Have Nemo vanish again? How many times can a fish get lost?

But while we haven’t seen the finished product yet, the trailers for Finding Dory do look like a potentially worthy sequel to one of Pixar’s very best efforts. This time it isn’t Nemo who’s lost, and it doesn’t even look like Dory goes missing either. Rather it’s Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) who’s on a quest to find her parents, who she can’t remember because of her short-term memory issues, with Marlin (Albert Brooks) and Nemo (Hayden Rolence) along for the ride. Finding Dory, in this case, really means a journey of self-discovery.

No, I’m not crying, you’re crying! It’s dusty in here! I have allergies! I forgot to put in eye drops last night! There was a sudden gust of wind! Oh just shut up.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film, from Disney:

Disney/Pixar's Finding Dory reunites everyone’s favorite forgetful blue tang, Dory, with her friends Nemo and Marlin on a search for answers about her past. What can she remember? Who are her parents? And where did she learn to speak Whale?

Hm, that’s a good question I hadn’t thought about before. Personally, though, I’m interested in seeing more of those pushy sea lions played by Dominic West and Idris Elba. The Wire reunion we always wanted, in sea lion form! Finding Dory opens in theaters on June 17.
