'Falling Skies' may have death, destruction and multiple alien races descending from the heavens on a weekly basis, but it only needs go as far as '7th Heaven' to find the President of the United States!  Former TV dad Stephen Collins has been tapped to play the alien invasion drama's erstwhile Commander-in-Chief for the TNT drama's third season, having managed to survive the world's destruction and with a new purpose in mind for the 2nd Massachusetts.  What might the former leader of the free world want, and how does he go about recruiting Tom Mason?

'Falling Skies' season 2 certainly set-up a resurgence of the United States, as the 2nd Mass. found a (somewhat) working government operating out of Charleston, South Carolina, but we're betting they would have liked to know the President of the United States survived the alien apocalypse!  According to TVGuide, former '7th Heaven' patriarch Stephen Collins has been tapped to fill the role of deposed commander-in-chief Benjamin Hathaway, to appear beginning with the fourth episode of the show's third season.

Described as a confident man with plenty of charisma, Hathaway has maintained a post of armed combat in Colorado following the invasion, dispatching sniper teams nationally to locate potential survivors.  When he hears of the 2nd Massachusetts' success in combating their Skitter and Overlord oppressors, Hathaway seeks out Tom Mason to learn from his methods.

The third season of TNT's Spielberg-produced alien actioner also boasts former 'House' star Robert Sean Wilson as previously unseen Charleston power-grid moderator Dr. Roger "The Rat King" Kadar, and Noah Wyle's former 'E.R.' co-star Gloria Reuben as Marina Perlata, member of the resistance and aide to Tom Mason.  Additionally, sci-fi icon and movement expert Doug Jones ('Hellboy,' 'The Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer') will portray the alien being (and possibly species) seen arriving in the closing moments of ‘Falling Skies’ season 2 finale “A More Perfect Union."

'Falling Skies' season 3 will hit TNT in the summer of 2013, but in the meantime what say you?  Are you surprised to see Stephen Collins playing the president?  What do you think the third season of the TNT alien drama will bring?  Give your theories in the comments!
