To get in the mood for tonight's spooky activities. 'Evil Dead' - the remake of 1981's horror classic 'The Evil Dead' - has shown us its re-imagining of the book and cover of Necronomicon ex Mortis. Though it may not be as well known as Jason's hockey mask, or Freddy's knife-glove, it's definitely one of the most memorable props in horror history.

That's the inside, here's the cover:

These pictures were put up on the film's Facebook page to get us in the mood for the remake and for Halloween in general.

For those who don't know the original films, this is how the book was described at the start of the second film:

"Legend has it that it was written by the dark ones: Necronomicon ex Mortis. Roughly translated: Book of The Dead. The book served as a passageway to the evil worlds beyond. It was written long ago, when the seas ran red with blood. It was this blood that was used to ink the book. In the year 1300 A.D., the book disappeared."

Which makes us want to throw on 'Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn' just because. The red band trailer made this look more promising than the last batch of horror remakes, and that it has Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell's seal of approval definitely helps. 'Evil Dead' hits theaters April 12, 2013.
