DESCRIPTION:  Hey y'all\, Shay here\, on Thursday\, March 10th we'll be having a "friendly" Nerf basketball game between Team Goody's(Chaz/Rock 108) and Team BC(my team). This showdown will happen at 7:00pm at Chelsea Street Pub. I’m in need of 4 members on my basketball team. Doesn't matter if you're good or bad\, I need you on my team! If you're on my team\, I'll make sure you get fed that night too. This annual event is very important to the MRA because they've recently torn down their old arena and will begin working on building a new one very soon. Money from this fundraising event will be used to help build the new arena. Any additional donations will be greatly appreciated by the association.    This New Year's Eve shindig is a BYOB event and tickets will be limited\, so get your tickets early and get ready to scoot-a-boot. Doors are scheduled to open at 8:30 PM and the dance will start shortly there after at the rodeo barn in May\, Texas. DESCRIPTION:[caption id="attachment_146091" align="aligncenter" width="630"] Photo by Scott Olson/Getty Images[/caption]    The 26th Annual 'TET Reunion' honoring all Veterans\, is scheduled for Saturday\, February 2nd starting at 12:00 noon at the Taylor County Expo center. All Veteransand their families are welcomed\, and encouraged to bring their photo's and memorabilia from their era of service. The TET reunion was started by Vietnam Vets but is open to all Vets\, no matter the era of service. There will be food\, drinks\, displays\, memorabilia and a USO kind of show.    The TET Reunion honors all branches of the service but it's primary focus originally was that of the Vietnam era Veterans. The Tet Offensive was a military campaign during the Vietnam War that was launched on January 30\, 1968 by forces of the Viet Cong (VC) and North Vietnamese Army (NVA) against the United States\, the South Vietnamese and their allies. It was a surprise attack against both the military and civilians. No attacks were supposed to take place during this time because of an agreed upon cease-fire.    The operations are referred to as the "TET Offensive" because of the prior agreement to a "cease fire" during the Tet Lunar New Year celebrations. Both North and South Vietnam agreed and announced that there would be a two-day cease-fire during the holiday. Nonetheless\, the NVA and VC launched an attack in the early morning hours of January 30th 1968. It was the first day of Tet. SUMMARY:Burns Supper and Scottish Night
DESCRIPTION:[caption id="attachment_149855" align="aligncenter" width="630"] YouTube[/caption]    When I first heard of the "Burns Supper and Scottish Night" event\, I began to wonder if people were speaking in code. Little did I know\, one person was rehearsing the welcoming of the guests and the infamous 'Haggis'. The later seemed to garner a lot of attention. Haggis\, had we met before? Was this Haggis new to the sales department? Oh\, I remember Haggis well\, yes\, yes Haggis and the Burns Supper an event celebrated worldwide. This years event will be January 26th in downtown Abilene.    The Burns Supper and Scottish Night is in a very nice location this year. The event for 2013 takes place at the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature (NCCL)\, 102 Cedar Street. I bring this up because of 'Haggis\,' the main attraction of this annual event. No matter how highly regarded this Haggis is\, I've seen it and smelled it and I've even tasted Haggis. Yep! I Tried it a couple of times (I love liver and onions though)\, I don't recall going back for seconds on haggis. It smells like a cross between my mom cooking liver and onions and my dad making menudo (a favorite Mexican soup of my dads).    Now that you know what Haggis is and smells like\, on to the taste. To me it tastes like over cooked calf livers but a lot more mushy. I was a kid in Europe when I tried it and like falling off a bicycle I remember the awful experience\, one I won't try to repeat. Many in West Texas say "the Haggis is great here\," I'll take your word for it.    Nonetheless\, the entire evening is way more fun than the star of this sorted event. There is music\, dance\, poetry and lots of the drink. Maybe that's why the haggis never took with me\, I was way to young to drink and I'm not starting now. Burns Supper is a night to celebrate the life and works of the national Bard. Suppers range from an informal gathering with friends to big formal dinners that are full of pomp and circumstance. If you plan to attend the Burns Supper and Scottish Night in Abilene\, you'll have to buy a ticket and bring a covered dish\, because this is a pot luck supper. The "Fur Ball" for 2013 is themed "Cow Dogs and Cowboys" so wear you boots\, hats and blue jeans. A gourmet meal will be served for all the guests\, human and canine. The people food will be catered by Perini Ranch Steakhouse and the doggie buffet is provided by Pam's Pets. This is an RSVP event and tickets will need to be purchased in advance. Besides the 'Fur Ball' is a major fundraiser for Rescue the Animals in Abilene.    The Abilene Fur Ball will feature professional pet photographers\, pet groomers\, live music by Jim Ned Jazz band\, a doggie buffet complete with doggie desserts and lots more. Many of the attendees will dress their canine companions some will even wear matching outfits. I think it's the most spectacular pet event in all of West Texas.
