Emma Hern Goes ‘Live 2 Tape’ for ‘Stole My Heart’ Performance [Exclusive Video]

Singer-songwriter Emma Hern has a retro sort of sound, but she took that vibe one step further for a special performance of her song "Stole My Heart." Readers can press play below to watch the artist belt out the tune in the recording studio as she and her band track live to tape.

Hern cites Aretha Franklin and Bonnie Raitt as musical influences. Looking at contemporaries, her sound is reminiscent of Grace Potter: sincere and soulful, with just a bit of pop glam.

Hern tells The Boot that this performance of "Stole My Heart" was her first time recording live to tape. It's something she's wanted to do for ages, though, and she calls the experience a special one.

"I love the raw authenticity that happens with tape," she adds. "There are no frills or sparkle in post production. What you see is what you get and everyone in the band just focused in on capturing the energy that was in the room that afternoon."

A Richmond, Va., native, Hern headed to Boston, Mass., for college; then, after graduating from Berklee College of Music, she moved to Nashville. She's played a number of Music City venues and showcases, and been working on making connections and bringing her musical vision to life.
