Texas born singer, songwriter Don Williams will be honored with the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, ASCAP Golden Note Award. Williams also know as The Gentle Giant of Country Music has had a very successful career as a singer, but what most folks don't know is that Williams is one heck of a songwriter. as a singer Don Williams chalked up 45 Top Ten songs and at least 17 No. 1's. Williams has also written songs that other artists have taken to No. 1.

 

Don Williams will be in good company when he receives ASCAP's Golden Note Award because past recipients include Garth Brooks, Lindsey Buckingham, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Alan Jackson, Quincy Jones, Reba McEntire, JD Souther, Stevie Wonder, André Previn and Tom Petty. This high honor is only bestowed upon songwriters, composers and artists who have achieved extraordinary career milestones.

Don't look for Don Williams to get that honor anytime soon because the ASCAP people say the award will be handed over during the upcoming  49th Annual Country Music Awards, taking place on Sunday, November 6th, at Nashville’s Gaylord Opryland. The CMA's will air nationally on ABC-TV.

His enduring place in music was recognized in 2010 with his election to the Country Music Hall of Fame. But for the most part, Don Williams will be remembered for all the great music he wrote and sang.
