Texas' Tax-Free Weekend is coming up August 17-19 this year, just one week before the start of the new school year. Stores will be packed with parents, teachers and students, checking items off their back-to-school lists in preparation for another season of learning. Will you be among the crowd?

Last year, I was in that crowd. My wife and I took our two school-age kids to pick up the necessary supplies to make them as ready as possible for their education. It was crowded, and a mess. Many of the back to school aisles of stores appeared to have been looted. Specific items we were looking for were sold out. Others had us visiting two or three different stores to find, not unlike a scavenger hunt. The school year equivalent of Black Friday All in the name of saving 8.25%.

I'm not too sure it's all worth it. Don't get me wrong, I could sure use the discount, but I've been told that many clothing and shoe stores suspend their actual sales (20% or more off, Buy one, get one 1/2 off, etc.) for that weekend. That's why this year, I'm seriously considering picking up the kids' supplies early and staying home for tax free weekend.

Am I alone in considering staying out of stores August 17-19? I'm interested in knowing how you feel about this. Answer the poll question, and feel free to leave additional comments below.
