Few country acts have had as much impact on a generation of females as the Dixie Chicks, so it's only fitting that the award-winning country trio were the subject of a group cover at a recent Song Suffragettes performance in Nashville.

The Song Suffragettes are a loose affiliation of some of the best female songwriters and artists in Nashville, and they perform every Monday at the Listening Room in Nashville in a rotating roster of five. The lineup actually expanded to eight on this particular evening, with the four-person country vocal group South Haven joining in as one of the artists.

Lena Stone kicks off the song, accompanying herself on guitar, followed by a vocal turn from Emma White. Krysta Nick and Sam Hatmaker also take solo vocal turns in the spotlight, as do the members of South Haven, while the entire group lends ethereal harmonies to one of the Chicks' signature songs.

Released as the second single from their Fly album in 1999, "Cowboy Take Me Away" took the Dixie Chicks to the top of Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart, and the aspiring stars do it justice in this intimate acoustic performance.

The #LetTheGirlsPlay movement formed in Music City in response to the unique struggles faced by female songwriters and performers in country music, and Taste of Country continues to be a proud supporter of those efforts. Look for a new artist profile once each month, and a fresh group cover song once a week from some of the most up-and-coming artists in Nashville.
