Three friends got quite an unpleasant surprise when they received their bill at a Stockton California Chilly D's Restaurant. And it had nothing to do with what they were being charged for their meal.

Instead they were shocked that they had been referred to as "Fat Girls" on the receipt.

A bartender named Jeff had typed in that cruel designation as a way to keep track of the bill and nobody had had the good sense to remove the insult before presenting it to the women.

"I got the bill, I was looking at bill [and] I was like, 'Why does this receipt say 'fat girls?'," customer Christine Duran said.

Duran presented the offending piece of paper to the restaurant's manager and the insults just continued. "[The manager] had like a smirk on his face, like it was funny but trying not to laugh," she explained.

The manager did offer her 25 and then 50 percent off the $25.50 bill but the women declined the offers, believing they should be comped the full price of the meal.

Chilly D's Restaurant owner Jimmy Siemers, who says he wasn't there when the incident took place, did offer a more sincere apology for their treatment. "I just want to tell them we're sincerely sorry and we'll do everything in our power to make sure this never happens to anyone again," he told ABC News.

Siemers added that Jeff, who typed in the insult, has been fired.
