Deadly Premonition Aims For a Killer PS3 Port
Rising Star Games is bringing a Director’s Cut of Access Games’ Deadly Premonition over to the PlayStation 3. What should gamers expect to find in the port of this Xbox 360 psychological horror?
Kotaku’s Kirk Hamilton sat down with Hidetaka “Swery” Suehiro, the game’s director, and Tomio Kanazawa, the producer, to take a look at what’s to come.
Deadly Premonition, which is described as a game version of the show Twin Peaks, stars Francis “York” Morgan, an FBI investigator, who comes to the town of Greenvale to investigate a string of murders. The game has you taking on the role of Morgan as he explores the town, interacts with its residents, eats and rests, and experiences some of the trappings of survival/psychological horror life.
The game, as Hamilton says, is considered a cult hit and might garner more fans with the PS3 release, especially since there have been changes made to improve the gameplay. These changes include:
- A new prologue that’s used as a framing device, in which someone tells Morgan’s story.
- A new epilogue.
- Controls that have been tweaked for better gameplay and allows for custom button assignments.
- A new difficulty, which is the only difficulty setting, and is described as being “somewhere between Easy and Normal.”
- An improved “GTA-style” mini-map.
Hamilton also asked whether or not a PC port was in the works, since PS3 and Xbox 360 versions now exist. Swery said that he’d consider it, but that Rising Star Games would need backing for such a port.
