Is David Nail‘s recent cover of Adele‘s ‘Someone Like You’ a glimpse into the future of what we can expect from the soulful singer with an amazing set of pipes? If he has it it his way, the answer is yes!

Nail is still enjoying the success of his sophomore album, ‘The Sound of a Million Dreams,’ which has produced the No. 1 single ‘Let It Rain,’ but he is already looking ahead to future records and what he’d love to do music wise some day soon.

“I know it’s way too early in my career to be thinking about this, but I would love to make a covers record,” Nail tells Taste of Country. “Just [an album of] covers and stuff. Obviously it’s too early to try and pull something like that off. I’m such a fan of songs, and I think a lot of people would be surprised by the people I grew up listening to. I think it would be kind of fun to do it. I think they would be surprised [by the songs and artists I'd choose], but then once they listen to it, they would be like hmm … that kind of makes sense. That’s kind of where a lot of that came from. One of the questions I get asked the most is ‘Who are some of your influences?’ I think every artist should do one.”

But for now, Nail is working his latest single from his sophomore album — the title track, ‘The Sound of a Million Dreams.’

“I’m very excited about this song,” says Nail. “I think this is one of my favorite songs that I’ve ever heard. It’s definitely a privilege to get to sing it every night. I just think it’s such an important message.

“Really, if you think back on your life, a lot times when you reflect back, you usually always at some point in the story reference a specific song or the kind of music you were listening to or your favorite artist,” Nail continues to explain. “I know that’s definitely been the case with me. I think that it just shows how powerful music is. I think that’s something over the past several years that I’ve gotten more of an appreciation for. So many times you go out and play a show, and you want people to put their hands in the air and have fun, but you kind of forget that there’s another side of people that music brings out. I just think it’s beautifully written and that it’s very simple, but a very poignant message.”

Even though he’s tackled getting that first No. 1 out of the way, Nail says the pressure is still on to do as good or better with every single to come. “I think [having a No. 1 song] kind of motivates you to want more,” notes Nail. “Somebody told me that George Strait just won his first Grammy last year, and he said he doesn’t even want to put it on the mantel until it has some company. I thought that was pretty cool.”

Nail recently wrapped his springtime tour with Billy Currington and Kip Moore. To see where Nail will be playing out on the road this summer, visit his official website by clicking here.
