Dallas Cowboys Coach Confirms Quarterback Tony Romo Had Surgery and Will Be Out the Rest of Season
This year just hasn’t been a good year for the Dallas Cowboys as injuries have plagued the team all year long. Well, it just got worse as it is being reported that quarterback Tony Romo will miss the rest of the season because of a back injury.
Update December 27th 10:28am
ESPN is reporting that Dallas Cowboys coach, Jason Garrett, has confirmed that Tony Romo had surgery on his back this morning (Friday December 27th) and is officially out for the rest of the season.
“The procedure happened this morning,” Garrett said. “We felt the surgery went well. Tony should be able to come home later today and start his rehabilitation.” (via ESPN)
Kyle Orton will be the starter in their win and take all game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Newly signed quarterback, Jon Kitna, who was with the Cowboys before, will back up Orton.
Update December 23rd at 4:20pm
After multiple reports from several sources, including ESPN, about Tony Romo being out for the rest of the season, Dallas Cowboys head coach, Jason Garrett, did not rule him out of this Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
At a press conference earlier this afternoon, Garrett added that the team will evaluate Romo throughout the rest of the week and keep him on a day to day basis. In the meantime, the pro-bowl quarterback will get treatment on the back each day.
If Romo can’t play, backup quarterback Kyle Orton will get the start for the Cowboys as they face the Eagles this Sunday for the NFC East championship.
Original Story December 23rd 3:41pm
Just one day after beating the Washington Redskins to set up an NFC East showdown with the Philadelphia Eagles next week, ESPN is reporting that Romo will be out the rest of the season because of a back injury that has apparently being nagging him lately.
Romo, who was noticeably limping around in the last quarter of the game against the Redskins, said that he would be getting an MRI on Monday (December 23rd) and that he didn’t think the injury would keep him out of the game against the Eagles.
Romo said his back was sore coming into the game against the Redskins and that it was aggravated with a first half hit.
“That triggered it a little bit,” Romo said Sunday. “Whatever the kid did on that one play, it really sent something that didn’t feel comfortable. (via ESPN)
