In the mid-'90s a good looking cowboy named Daron Norwood stepped on the country music scene with hopes of becoming the 'next big thing'. He had moderate success and then hit a few bumps in the road. Yesterday, July 22nd, Norwood was found dead in his Hereford, Tx home.

I began my radio career in 1995, Daron was just starting out  around that time as well. But after just a few years his career began to suffer due to alcohol use. He was reportedly doing 20-25 shots a night; not conducive to being a performer.

He finally left the music business tried to get his life together, even toured schools to talk to kids about drug and alcohol abuse. He was arrested in 2008 for spousal abuse although charges were eventually dropped.

Norwood would play a club here and there but never got another shot at making the big time. Yesterday, he was found dead at his home in Hereford, Tx; he was 49. Police do not suspect any foul play.

One of my favorite songs from Norwood was 'My Girl Friday' (see above video). A song written for dads who only get to see their kids every other weekend. I hope others remember him for his great music and not the other things that marred his life and career. Sometimes you get caught in a spiral that you just can't recover from. We wish his family and friends our condolences.
