Talk about mystery meat.

The Red Flower Chinese Restaurant in Williamsburg, Kentucky, was shut down last week after health officials found they were serving their customers roadkill. This highly questionable culinary practice was revealed when customers caught restaurant employees bringing a dead deer into the kitchen.

"There was actually a blood trail they were mopping up behind the garbage can," customer Katie Hopkins said. "There was like a tail, and like a foot and a leg sticking out of the garbage can, and they wheeled it straight back into the kitchen."

The grossed-out patrons then called local health inspector Paul Lawson, who quickly found the deer carcass in question. The restaurant's owner told Lawson that he had found the dead animal on a nearby highway, and that he wasn't aware that roadkill was off limits.

"They said they didn't know they weren't allowed to do that, so that makes me concerned that maybe they could have before," Lawson explained. "They didn't admit to doing it before."

The Red Flower will be eligible to reopen if it passes another health inspection and proves it has been sanitized.
