Chaz Explains Why He Thinks Pete Rose’s MLB Lifetime Ban Should Be Lifted

With all of this chatter about Ryan Braun and other MLB players involved with PED’s (performance enhancing drugs), I think that it is time that we all start talking about the greatest hitter in the history of baseball, and why he is still not getting the respect he deserves. I’m talking about Pete Rose.

In my opinion, if steroid users get suspended for several games, but can still come back, then why in the heck is Pete Rose still banned from the game of baseball? I just don’t get it. I know that Rose made some mistakes. But, we all have. And, I truly believe that everybody deserves a second chance even after making a mistake. Rose never got a second chance. The league just straight up told the dude he’s out forever for betting on the game. Yet, steroid users are getting a slap on the wrist compared to what happened to Pete Rose.

So, is the MLB is saying that betting on the game of baseball is worse than juicing up?

Let’s face it, both are cheating. But which is worse? Drugs or betting?

Look, I know that betting was a bad idea for Rose, and he should have had to pay the price. But, I think the guy has gone above and beyond to pay the price for what he did. Ryan Braun, A-Rod, as well as other baseball players, have taken one of the greatest sports in history, and have tarnished what was once a wholesome game by juicing up.

Yes, Rose did a bad thing. But, for crying out loud, it’s been 24 years since MLB has banned him. And, while other players are pretty much getting a slap on the wrist, I think it’s time for MLB to do the right thing. Let Pete Rose back in baseball, and put him in Cooperstown. Because his numbers don’t lie.

Pete Rose Career Stats

  • All-time Major League leader in hits with 4,256
  • Games played (3,562)
  • At Bats (14,053)
  • Won three World Series rings
  • Won three batting titles
  • One Most Valuable Player Award
  • Two Gold Gloves
  • Rookie of the Year Award
  • 17 All-Star appearances in 5 different positions

Those numbers are very worthy of being enshrined forever. I’m not condoning what he did because it was wrong. But, with so many other players doing, what I believe, far worse things in the game of baseball, why is it still such a big deal for Rose to still be banned?

You don’t have to agree with me, but those are my thoughts about Pete Rose’s lifetime ban.

What are yours?
