Though Neill Blomkamp's 'Elysium' didn't exactly hit a home run at the box office this summer, the director is already working on his follow-up film: a sci-fi comedy called 'Chappie.' Blomkamp regular Sharlto Copley will star alongside androgynous South African music duo Die Antwoord in the film, which has just added mega-star Hugh Jackman to the cast.

Jackman revealed to Screen Daily that he has a part in the upcoming film:

I am doing a role in Neill's new film, called 'Chappie,' which we shoot in Johannesburg. I'm there for a couple of weeks at the beginning of next year.

The film follows two gangsters who steal a robot to use for their own shady means. Screen Daily adds that they think they know who Jackman is playing in the film:

From what little extra info I have, it would seem that Jackman is playing a CEO who ends up on the wrong side of the gangsters. He's apparently quite a resourceful character, though.

'Chappie' is based on Blomkamp's 2004 short film 'Tetra Vaal,' which you can watch below. The short features Blomkamp's signature visual effects style in the form of rabbit-eared robots. Though 'Chappie' is said to be a comedy, it doesn't seem that the director is straying far from the sort of material we've seen in 'District 9' and 'Elysium.' 'Chappie' is set for a March 27, 2015 release.
