Free Slurpee Drinks at 7-Eleven on Wednesday July 11th

When I think of 7-Eleven, I immediately think of my dad taking me and my brother out for a Slurpee on a hot Saturday afternoon. My brother and I both preferred to mix the Coca-Cola and Wild Cherry flavors in one cup. I’d be willing to bet the Slurpee was a big part of your childhood too.

Well, once again, 7-Eleven is celebrating its birthday by giving away free Slurpee drinks.

The Abilene Public Library Will Host a “Conquer Your Kindle” Class

My wife was given a Kindle by her employer for Christmas 2010. Christmas 2011, her boss gave her a 'Kindle Fire', and I was handed down her first one. At first I said "wow, an over grown iPhone for books, great." I didn't appreciate this hand me down e-book, until Janis Test with the Abilene Library, told me that I can check-out books with my Kindle and that the library has a 'Conquer your Kindle' class that I needed to take. That class is coming up again.

Hank Williams Jr. is Bringing His Rowdy Friends to the Texas Music Festival

Hank Williams Jr. is bringing all the rowdy friends he can gather up, to the 'North Forty' field on September 2nd, for the 'Texas Music Festival'. Joining Bocephus on stage are Merle Haggard, Pat Green, David Allan Coe, Shooter Jennings, Whiskey Myers, Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights, Cody Johnson, Turnpike Troubadours and others. Katherine Kolstad with Billy Bob's said that the event has got to go outside.

Bug Nasty Returns to the Plowboy Mud Bog in Roscoe [VIDEO]

 

This Saturday July 7th the Roscoe little league baseball field is the location for the annual Plowboy Mud Bog. Felix Pantoja the Mud Bog organizer says, "last year 'Bug Nasty' from Hobbs New Mexico and the crowds favorite, seemed to be the only one to make it out of the pit, but this year Bug Nasty has got competition coming from the Texas panhandle. Bug Nasty is returning this year to defend it's title." Anyone can come watch or compete, even kids can make the dash for cash.

July 4th Neighborhood Parades Are Alive and Well in Abilene [VIDEO]

s the fourth of July nears, there are a lot of celebrations going on in Abilene and the Big Country. First off, there are two neighborhood parades I'm aware of, the Amarillo Street Parade and the Hillcrest neighborhood parade. The later will take place Wednesday July 4th. Every summer McMurry puts on two dinner theaters, for the second production of the 2012 McMurry summer series 'Swing, Swang, Swung' as they call it, will be an evening of music, dining, and dancing in a nightclub setting, featuring a full seven piece jazz band with a female vocalist.
