Carrie Underwood's husband Mike Fisher suffered a lower body injury during Monday night's (May 7) Game 6 of an NHL Playoffs Series against the Winnipeg Jets, and as a result, he'll miss at least Thursday night's Game 7.

There are also reports that the hockey player has undergone surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee, but the team has not confirmed that. Fisher is officially listed as day-to-day, meaning he could return if the Predators advance to the conference finals.

A sports blog called A to Z Sports cites an unnamed source in saying that 37-year-old Fisher is undergoing surgery. If true, it would be a disappointing end to the former Captain's return from retirement. He'd called it a career after the 2016-17 season, only to return for one more chance at the Stanley Cup. The Predators are trying to fight back from a 3-2 deficit to win the best of seven series against the Jets. While not a scoring threat, the physically imposing Fisher has been an asset in face-offs. He played just five shifts during Monday night's game.

Fisher and Underwood will be married eight years in June and have a son together. His own recovery comes just months after he treated his wife for injuries sustained in a fall at the couple's home near Nashville. The November spill resulted in a broken wrist and many facial injuries for Underwood, which in recent weeks the "Cry Pretty" singer has discussed in depth in interviews, including an appearance on Thursday's Today show.

Underwood, a 2018 WE Fest headliner, is expected to drop a new album called Cry Pretty in September. This Sunday (May 13) she'll return to American Idol as a mentor.
