Blue-eyed crooner Brett Eldredge brought his charm to the Today Show stage Friday morning (Sept. 30) with his newest single “Wanna Be That Song,” and we’d say he accomplished the song’s titular goal.

The laid-back, sweetly romantic tune asks to make a memory in the hearts of listeners — something everyone can identify with. We all have those songs that take us back to a specific place and time, or even a specific feeling, and Eldredge says that’s what he wanted to do with this song.

“I wanna people to listen to this song and have it take them back to the moment they fell in love or the big moments in their life,” he tells the hosts. “I love to sing it; it’s my favorite song I’ve ever written, I think." His love for the tune shows in his performance as he sings the heartfelt ballad, smiling and giving it all he’s got.

While on set, Eldredge also got a chance to hang out with a pretty adorable guest named Charlie, who was serving as the show’s official “Puppy With a Purpose” — resulting in one ridiculously cute photo. The sweet dog is part of the organization America’s VetDogs, which pairs up pups with vets and first responders to support them emotionally and physically.

Eldredge is getting ready to release a Christmas album this year called Glow, which fans can go ahead and preorder now if they'd like to get in the holiday spirit before they've even put the candy corn out. It officially drops Oct. 28. Eldredge is currently on tour with Maren Morris and Keith Urban as part of Urban’s Ripcord tour.
