Darius Rucker was asked to become the latest member of the Grand Ole Opry Tuesday, October 2nd. An honor any country musician is lucky to receive. Darius Rucker of course is not new to the music world, starting as the front man of Hootie and the Blowfish, but tried his hand at country a few years back and has become a huge success.

Darius became one of my favorites the minute I put his single in and played it. I remember getting the single but putting it aside and not giving it much thought afterwards. Then one day I thought, I'm going to listen to this and see if it's any good. I have to be honest I wasn't thinking about Darius Rucker being Hootie; I hadn't put the two together at the time. I played the song and thought this is really good stuff. I googled the name Darius Rucker and when his picture popped up I couldn't believe I hadn't realized before who he was. I was then extremely excited because I love Hootie and the Blowfish.

Last evening started like any other, Darius was simply playing a show at the Opry. He was chatting and answering questions from the crowd when a familiar face appeared in the crowd with two questions. Brad Paisley, a current member of the Opry, told Rucker he had two questios. {The} “First question is: Are you still the worst poker player in the world? {and} The other question is, would you like to be the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry?”

Rucker was so surprised by the question he forgot to even answer. When Paisley prompted him again he answered "YES".

Rucker's actual induction however, won't take place until October 16th. You will be able to watch the induction live on GAC television. Welcome to the Grand Ole Opry Darius!
