Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson are headed to Soldier Field in Chicago, Ill., to put on a one-night show honoring members of the military. The concert is part of the 2017 Department of Defense Warrior Games.

The 2017 Warrior Games will take place June 30-July 8 throughout downtown Chicago; Shelton and Clarkson's concert is scheduled for July 1. The Warrior Games are a chance for wounded and injured members of the military to compete against each other in a Paralympics-style competition.

“I can’t wait to perform this year at the Warrior Games,” Clarkson says. “Any time we can all be a part of something that lifts up and shines a light on all of these heroes that are participating is an amazing moment … These men and women have put their lives on the line for us and have overcome so much in the process of doing that. It will be a tremendous honor to perform for them and their families who have sacrificed so much.”

As reported by Taste of Country, roughly 265 servicemen and -women from the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Special Operations Command will be competing in the 2017 Warrior Games. In addition to the American servicemembers involved, the United Kingdom Armed Forces as well as the Australian Defense Force will be in attendance.

Warrior Games participants will compete in eight adaptive sports: archery, cycling, shooting, field, swimming, sitting volleyball, track and wheelchair basketball. In 2017, the games are being co-hosted by the U.S. Navy and the City of Chicago; it will be the first time that the event is held outside of a military installment or Olympic Training Center.

“The men and women that serve and protect this country on a daily basis allow the rest of us the freedoms we enjoy,” Shelton says. “I’m proud to be part of this event and root these heroes on to victory at this year’s Warrior Games.”
