Best Places in Abilene to Take Mom on Mother’s Day – Our Top Five
Best Places in Abilene to Take Mom on Mother’s Day. Now please keep in mind my mother went to be with the Lord several months ago, so I’m having a difficult time with this, but I think I’m best suited to do this because I just wished I could go to my moms home tell her how much I love her, bring her another card, deliver the flowers (she always told me to give her flowers while she was still alive so she could enjoy them) and I would thank her for everything and then whisk her off to a day of “Mom Time”. I’ll start with #5.

5. Golden Corral
Why do you ask? Because that is where my mother always wanted to go. I once asked her mom it’s your choice I’ll take you anywhere and money is no object She would simply reply your dad can have his steak, you

can have your salad and I can have my rotisserie chicken.
This is truly a mom place,

because it will have something to please everyone including the grand-kids mom always made such a fuss over. She was right they have something for everybody including the deserts even the retired kids like dad who loves the corrals chocolate chip chocolate cookies.

4. Red Lobster
Another one of moms favorite places. Lobster, shrimp, scallops and the fish and chips. This place was always reserved for special occasions. Although I will confess that mom and I sneaked off a time or two for a quick lunch (don’t tell dad). I tried to take pictures of their mouth-watering dishes and local but was told the corporate offices won’t allow it…sorry no pics. Use your imagination.

3. Copper Creek
This is top of the list for restaurants because the top two are not restaurants, I’ll explain later. Mom worked at some real fine dining places like the Officers Club at Dyess, Fairway Oaks Country Club and the Abilene Country Club. Mom has always said there is something about eating at a “fine dining” restaurant.

There, servers have to be on there toes, covering all the bases. “Fine dining” she said “is an experience of a finer life being treated like royalty and being pampered much

like those cruises you go on son, they really treat you like you’re a somebody and the food, well only Kings and Queens eat like that.” Mom is right if you go to Copper Creek it’s real fancy yet West-Texas friendly. I really like white linen napkins and table cloths and the quite relaxed atmosphere that seems to go to those afforded the “finer things in life”.

2. The Day Spa
Mom always loved being pampered. To be direct and to the point, you’d have to be an ogre to not want some “spa-love”, you know hair done up just right, hair extensions, manicure, pedicure and foot massage (dad was either to rough or didn’t really want to do it),

a facial and a 90 minute massage. The best place for that is Vendetta’s Hair Salon And Day Spa.

1. Mom’s Home
In her dining room with all us kids and grand-kids breaking bread with her holding court she is in charge and telling all my children about the time (at the young age of 4) I ran away from home just me and my bird and how difficult I was as a child and how by the grace of God above she raised me. Or about the time my dog ate her newly planted plum tree she got for mothers day from my older brother who had just gotten out of boot camp. Then there’s the time my younger brother (with his new drivers license in hand) decided to pull the car up in the driveway and nearly came through the living room wall. But the best story yet was the time my son son gave the cat a hair cut and a bath…in the toilet. A home full of love and laughter, that is all a mom ever really wants.
Happy Mother Day.
