Best Movies to Watch During Christmas Break – Shay’s Top 5 [VIDEOS]
There are many great movies to watch during Christmas break and you may or may not agree with my 5, but they are some of my favorites. Actually one isn’t really a favorite but it brings back memories of Christmas at my grandma’s every year so it makes the list just for that reason alone.
First on my list is my all time favorite movie ‘White Christmas’. I love the singing and dancing. You just can’t beat Bing Crosby’s version of ‘White Christmas’. You can come close but in my opinion you can’t beat it. The end of the movie always gives me chills with the closing costumes and ballerinas all in red and white. This movie is special to me also because every Christmas my cousin, my mom and I would get a 2 liter Dr.Pepper, some snacks and sit and watch ‘White Christmas’. We lost my cousin to cancer about 3 years ago and I miss watching it with her.

Next on my list is ‘Smoky Mountain Christmas’ with Dolly Parton and Lee Majors. It’s about a country singer (big stretch) who heads to the Smoky Mountains to get away from her hectic life. She goes to a friends cabin where she finds 7 orphans who have runaway from the orphanage and are hiding out in the cabin. She promises not to take them back to the orphanage and allows them to stay at the cabin. They spend the holiday together and they start to grow on her. Along the way she meets a “mountain man” played by Lee Majors and there’s a witch in the mix too. It’s a cute story that the kids can watch with you. It’s currently been on the Hallmark Channel.

My next movie isn’t exactly a “Christmas” movie per-say but it has that spirit about it and it stars two of my favorite people, Lee Meriwether and James Garner. The movie is about a wealthy man (Garner) who has recently passed away. He has children who don’t deserve to be beneficiaries but will fight over the money nonetheless. He also has a grandson who is going down the wrong path but is young enough to change; he sees great potential in this grandson. He will give the entire inheritance to him but he must fulfill a few of the mans wishes first. Two of the granddads closest friends are to see that the grandson follows all the rules he’s laid out in order to receive the full inheritance. And it’s A LOT of money, but the lessons learned along the way are the real wealth he finds. That was the true mission of the granddad; the money was a bonus. It is currently playing on the Hallmark Channel.

Next up is The Santa Clause, and then 2 and 3 also. All three movies of course star Tim Allen. In the first one he hears something on the roof and goes outside to see what the commotion is all about. He finds Santa uh..dead but a note in the pocket saying that if something should happen to him put on the suit and the reindeer would know what to do. There’s some very small print on the card though that says you accept becoming Santa Claus when you put on the suit; a little something he missed. Tim Allen then begins to go through a few changes he didn’t expect. He gains weight, grows a beard and physically becomes Santa. It’s a great movie for you and the kids.

Last on my list is always a favorite of everyone’s but it’s not really one of my favorites to watch, A Christmas Story. However, every Christmas Eve the movie was on while we were having our tree at my grandmothers. So the movie just brings back a lot of memories from my childhood, which ironically is what the movie is all about in the first place. (I mean who can’t relate to the Red Rider BB Gun incident and the leg lamp.) We would gather at my dads parents on Christmas Eve along with his brothers family, 10 of us in all. We would do lots of snacks and sandwiches and open presents while the movie played in the background. Then Christmas morning we would have our tree at home and then back to my grandma’s for Christmas lunch….the full meal!! So A Christmas Story makes my list just because it’s a staple of the holidays and has been for many years.
